Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised one suspected terrorist, arrested another and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an intelligence-led operation in Abakuradi Village, Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The operation, conducted on October 5, 2026, followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorist elements in the area.
According to the Army, troops of 159 Battalion, working in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force, swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists.
During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralised while another was apprehended. Several others reportedly fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a magazine.
The Army said troops were continuing with an exploitation operation in the area while pursuing the fleeing terrorists to prevent them from regrouping or carrying out further attacks.
It described the operation as another demonstration of the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations, rapid troop deployment and collaboration between the military, local security stakeholders and communities in countering terrorism.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining sustained operational pressure on terrorists and other criminal elements, while working with sister security agencies and local communities to protect lives and property and restore lasting peace in affected areas.
