Troops kill three kidnap suspects, recover arms in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Composite Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with personnel of the Kogi State Vigilance Service (KSVS), have neutralised three suspected kidnappers and recovered arms and ammunition during an operation in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The operation, conducted on November 4, 2026, was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks and rid the state of criminal elements.

A statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Composite Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said the operation followed earlier raids and exploitation activities in Edimogbo Forest.

According to the statement, the joint security team extended its search from Edimogbo Forest towards the Obele Forest area in pursuit of fleeing suspected kidnappers.

The troops reportedly made contact with the suspects, who attempted to escape upon sighting the security personnel. Three suspected kidnappers were neutralised during the encounter.

Subsequent searches of the area led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, 12 magazines, 336 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three bandoliers and an identity card.

The Army said the operation demonstrated sustained military pressure on criminal groups through offensive operations, intelligence-driven patrols and the clearance of identified hideouts.

It added that continued security dominance of the area was aimed at denying kidnappers freedom of movement and restoring confidence among residents of affected communities.

The Commander of the 12 Composite Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Kasim Umar Sidi, commended the troops and Kogi State Vigilance Service personnel for their resilience, professionalism and operational effectiveness.

He urged them to sustain the momentum and remain vigilant to prevent criminal elements from establishing safe havens within the brigade’s area of responsibility.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in Kogi State and neighbouring areas, while urging residents to provide credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
