Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two terrorists and recovered four AK-47 rifles, eight motorcycles, ammunition and other equipment during sustained clearance operations in Sokoto State.
The military disclosed that the operations, conducted on October 15, 2026, targeted terrorist elements operating around Waria Forest and Sarma Village as troops intensified efforts to dismantle armed groups and restore security across the North-West.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieut. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 first made contact with terrorists at Waria Forest, where a firefight resulted in the neutralisation of one terrorist.
The troops subsequently recovered two AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles and other items from the location.
In a separate encounter at Sarma Village, troops engaged another group of terrorists, neutralising one combatant and forcing the remaining members to flee, abandoning their equipment.
Further exploitation of the area led to the recovery of six additional motorcycles, two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition, one communication device and other miscellaneous items.
The recoveries brought the total number of AK-47 rifles seized during the operations to four, while eight motorcycles were also recovered from the two locations.
The Theatre Command described the outcomes as evidence of the sustained commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace and security across the joint operations area.
It also acknowledged the continued support and cooperation of members of the public, stressing that community participation remained important to ongoing security operations.
The military urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the nearest security outpost to support efforts to prevent attacks and track down fleeing terrorist elements.
