Troops nab fake policemen, seize cannabis-laden vehicles in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two fake police officers and intercepted two vehicles loaded with cannabis in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

In a statement, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Lieutenant Umar Muhammad said the operation, conducted under Operation Lafiya Nakowa at Takum Junction, followed credible intelligence that led to the interception of two Toyota Hilux vehicles disguised as police patrol vans. The suspects, identified as 71-year-old dismissed Police ASP, Monday George, and 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche, were caught in mobile police uniforms.

Investigations revealed that the vehicles were loaded with cannabis in Akure, Ondo State, and were en route to Adamawa before being stopped. While one vehicle was successfully intercepted with its occupants, the suspects in the second Hilux abandoned it and fled upon sighting the troops. A total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered.

The suspects and seized exhibits have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops and NDLEA operatives for their synergy and resilience, stressing that the Brigade remains committed to flushing out criminals and drug traffickers from Taraba. He also urged the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
