Troops of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have successfully repelled a terrorist attack along the Kurfi–Batsari road in Katsina State, neutralising eight assailants in a fierce early morning gun battle on Wednesday, June 18.
The attack, launched around 5:00 a.m., was met with swift and coordinated response by the troops, who engaged the terrorists in a prolonged firefight. The encounter resulted in the recovery of several AK-47 rifles, magazines, and a significant quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition.
One soldier sustained injuries during the operation and has since been evacuated to a medical facility where he is reported to be in stable condition.
The Brigade commended the bravery and professionalism of its personnel and expressed gratitude to the local community for their continued support and cooperation, which it said is crucial in sustaining the fight against terrorism in the region.
“This successful operation highlights the importance of vigilance and collaboration between security forces and residents in securing our communities,” the Army stated, urging citizens and local stakeholders to remain alert as efforts to restore lasting peace across Katsina continue.
