In a significant display of effective counterinsurgency operations, troops belonging to the 33 Brigade of the Nigerian Army successfully neutralized an armed bandit during an ambush operation conducted on Friday, October 20, 2023, in Bura, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
According to Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the troops meticulously planned and executed an ambush operation, resulting in the neutralization of an armed bandit. The operation, carried out at a recognized crossing point, marked a strategic victory in the ongoing battle against criminal elements in the region.
He said during the operation, the troops engaged the bandits in a fierce firefight, ultimately resulting in the demise of one bandit. The remaining assailants managed to escape, leaving behind evidence of their injuries, as traces of blood were discovered at the scene. Additionally, the troops successfully recovered a cache of items, including one AK-47 rifle, 14 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a mobile phone, and a fetish amulet.

Nwachukwu said the Army remains resolute in its efforts to safeguard the region, with troops currently engaged in extensive operations to track and capture the fleeing bandits. This commitment underscores the military’s determination to rid Bauchi State of criminal elements that threaten the peace and security of the region.
He said in a separate operation on the same day, military personnel responded swiftly to a report by a concerned motorist regarding the theft of a Toyota Corolla vehicle bearing registration number ABJ 343 KL. This report prompted an immediate response from vigilant troops stationed along the Bauchi-Jos Highway.
Nwachukwu said upon receiving the report, troops swiftly established a snap checkpoint along the highway, with the primary objective of apprehending the carjackers. In an attempt to evade capture, the carjackers lost control of the stolen vehicle and crashed. The troops acted with remarkable agility, swiftly apprehending the suspects.
He said the captured individuals, along with the stolen vehicle, have been handed over to the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation and legal action. This decisive response by the military serves as a testament to their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of the citizens in the region.
Nwachukwu commended the troops for their unwavering dedication and efficient execution of these operations, reiterating the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to preserving the peace and security of Bauchi State.
