Troops neutralize bandits, rescue captives in Niger State

Troops of 18 Brigade, operating under Sub-Sector 2 of Operation FANTAN YAMMA, have neutralized several bandits and rescued abducted victims during a week-long counterinsurgency operation across parts of Niger State.

Confirming the report, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 18 BrigadeMajor Mohammed Nuhu Jaafaru said the operation, which covered the Kontagora, Mariga, Rijau, and Rafi Local Government Areas, recorded significant successes against criminal elements terrorizing rural communities in the region.

Brigadier General Ibrahim Babatunde Gambari, Commander of 18 Brigade and Sub-Sector 2, commended the troops for their professionalism, resilience, and tactical efficiency, noting that the engagements were executed with minimal casualties and equipment losses.

He attributed the success of the operation in part to the swift and effective response of the Air Component, whose close air support and interdiction missions were instrumental in neutralizing the bandits and disrupting their strongholds.

General Gambari urged the troops to sustain the tempo of operations to ensure lasting peace and stability, enabling residents to carry out their daily activities without fear of attacks. He also expressed appreciation to the General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander Sector 1 of Operation FANTAN YAMMA for his continuous guidance and operational support.

Reaffirming the Army’s commitment to collaborative security efforts, the Brigade Commander emphasized that 18 Brigade will continue to work closely with other security agencies to maintain peace and protect lives and property across Niger State and its environs.
