Troops engaged in Operation SAFE HAVEN have reported notable achievements in their ongoing efforts to combat criminal elements across the Plateau, Bauchi, and Kaduna States. Over the course of two months, the operation has seen a series of successful sting operations resulting in the arrest of numerous kidnappers, neutralization of armed criminals, rescue of kidnapped victims, and dismantling of illegal gun manufacturing and distribution networks.
On January 2, 2024, personnel stationed at the Hawan Kibo checkpoint intercepted a stolen vehicle and apprehended two suspects in Plateau State. The operation revealed connections to criminal activities in Bauchi State. Additionally, security agencies responded to distress calls in various locations, resulting in the arrest of several suspects and recovery of stolen property.
Further successes were achieved throughout January and February, including the rescue of kidnapped victims, arrest of armed robbers, and dismantling of criminal networks involved in illegal arms manufacturing and distribution. Notable incidents include the apprehension of individuals involved in the murder captured in a viral video, as well as the raid of a local weapon fabrication factory, resulting in the arrest of several suspects and recovery of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.
In total, Operation SAFE HAVEN rescued 79 civilians from kidnappers and armed robbers, recovered 110 different weapons, and seized 1,161 rounds of ammunition from suspected criminals. Additionally, 13 armed criminals were neutralized, and 271 suspects were arrested for various offenses including kidnapping, armed robbery, and banditry.
The operation has also seen successes in prosecution, with 33 suspects already brought before the courts, and the dismantling of two arms fabrication factories. Furthermore, 554 livestock were recovered from rustlers.
