Troops repel coordinated ISWAP infiltration attempts in Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have foiled multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists across parts of Borno State, forcing the attackers into a disorderly retreat after intense engagements.

According to the military, the failed attacks occurred in the early hours of Friday between 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., when the terrorists simultaneously attempted to infiltrate Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross axis with the apparent aim of gaining access to Maiduguri metropolis.

The military said the coordinated assault was detected through its early warning system, enabling troops to swiftly respond with overwhelming firepower from multiple directions. The terrorists were repelled before they could breach the targeted locations.

In separate operations, troops also successfully thwarted additional infiltration attempts at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai.

During the pursuit of fleeing terrorists at Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). However, the military confirmed that no personnel were injured and that the operational situation remained stable.

Military authorities said the rapid tactical response by troops overwhelmed the attackers, compelling them to abandon their mission and retreat in confusion across all operational axes.

Troops have since commenced clearance and exploitation operations to track down the fleeing terrorists, consolidate operational gains, dominate the affected areas and prevent further threats to surrounding communities.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive offensive operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement while protecting lives and property across the North-East.

The military also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
