Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled multiple terrorist attacks across Katsina and Zamfara states, rescued an abducted district head and recovered arms, ammunition and motorcycles in a series of coordinated operations aimed at sustaining pressure on criminal elements in the region.
In a statement, Media Information Officer Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA Lieut. Col. Aliyu Danja said the operations, carried out on July 2, 2026, demonstrated the task force’s continued resolve to protect lives and property, disrupt terrorist activities and restore security across the North-West.
In Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 on fighting patrol engaged suspected terrorists between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area after the fleeing gunmen reportedly opened fire on the advancing soldiers.
The troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to abandon their mission and flee into the surrounding area.
Following the encounter, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists.

In another operation on the outskirts of Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops, working alongside other security agencies and local vigilantes, responded swiftly to a terrorist attack, killing one of the assailants during a gun battle.
The task force also recorded a major success in Malumfashi Local Government Area, where troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, responded to reports that armed terrorists riding several motorcycles had invaded Farin Hawa Village and abducted the District Head, Mubarak Sharin.
The pursuing troops intercepted the fleeing terrorists, neutralised one of the kidnappers and successfully rescued the traditional ruler, disrupting the criminals’ withdrawal.
In neighbouring Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 repelled a separate terrorist assault on their location at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
The military said reinforcements deployed on a fighting patrol joined the engagement, compelling the attackers to retreat after an intense exchange of gunfire.
Troops subsequently recovered one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier and a CamelBak hydration pack abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

Commending the troops, Operation FANSAN YAMMA praised the courage, professionalism and resilience displayed by its personnel, as well as the support provided by other security agencies and local vigilante groups during the operations.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups while strengthening collaboration with local communities to improve security and protect the lives and property of law-abiding residents across the North-West.
