The Armed Forces of Nigeria have rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, following weeks of captivity in the hands of bandits.
In a statement In statement Director of Defence Information Major General Samaila Uba said the rescue was carried out by troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, during intensified search-and-rescue operations under Operation FASAN YAMMA.
According to the military, troops mounted sustained offensive operations against criminal elements, leading to contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, where Mrs. Abubakar was successfully recovered.
The Defence Headquarters disclosed that during the encounter, the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing in the face of overwhelming pressure from advancing troops.
She was immediately evacuated from the scene and taken to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and is said to be responding positively.
The military leadership reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Mrs. Abubakar’s full recovery and stated that all necessary support is being provided to her family during the period.
Defence Headquarters further assured Nigerians that troops would sustain ongoing operations aimed at tracking down and neutralising those responsible for the abduction, while intensifying efforts to eliminate terrorist and bandit threats in Katsina State and other parts of the country.
