Troops retrieve assets, rescue women, children in Timbuktu Triangle

In the ongoing offensive campaign conducted by units of the Nigerian Army aimed at eradicating terrorist strongholds within the Timbuktu Triangle spanning Borno and Yobe States, significant accomplishments have been achieved. Among these achievements is the successful retrieval of valuable assets and the liberation of individuals, predominantly women and children, who were held captive by the terrorist factions.

The insurgents, compelled to abandon their fortified positions due to intense aerial and artillery bombardments coupled with ground engagements, left behind substantial assets including a MOWAG Armoured Personnel Carrier, a Canter Truck, and a Tractor. Furthermore, the operation resulted in the rescue of 44 civilians, predominantly women and children, who had been subjected to captivity within the region.

Upon liberation, immediate humanitarian assistance was extended to the rescued individuals, encompassing provisions such as new clothing aimed at restoring their sense of comfort and dignity as they embark on their journey to freedom. Subsequently, these individuals have been transferred to the jurisdiction of the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs for ongoing care and support.

This courageous and meticulously executed operation not only facilitated the recovery of critical resources but also heralded a beacon of hope and freedom for innocent victims ensnared amidst the turmoil of conflict.
