Nigerian Army dismisses two soldiers for alleged theft at Dangote refinery

In a demonstration of its steadfast commitment to professionalism and integrity, the Nigerian Army (NA) has officially communicated the findings of its investigation into the reported theft of armoured cables at the Dangote Refinery premises on April 14, 2024. The inquiry centered around Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani.

According to a statement released by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, an exhaustive investigation, conducted in collaboration with the refinery’s management, revealed that the implicated soldiers had deserted their assigned posts and were in possession of the materials without authorization.

Nwachukwu disclosed that the soldiers faced charges under section 57, sub-section (1) for Failure to Perform Military Duties, and section 114, sub-section (1) for Other Civil Offences, as stipulated in the Armed Forces Act CAP A20 of the Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. Subsequently, both individuals underwent a summary trial, during which evidence was presented, and they were afforded the opportunity to present their defenses. Despite this, they were found guilty in accordance with military regulations.

In alignment with its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and criminal behavior within its ranks, the Nigerian Army has enacted immediate dismissal measures against the implicated soldiers. They have been duly handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.

This decisive course of action underscores the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to uphold institutional integrity and safeguard its esteemed reputation. Major General Nwachukwu reiterated that such measures underscore the NA’s firm stance on ensuring discipline and accountability across all echelons.

Assuring the public of its unwavering dedication to upholding integrity and conducting its duties with honor, the Nigerian Army calls for continued support in its mission to uphold national security and foster peace and stability across the nation.
