In a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Army (NA) Troops and the Nigerian Customs Service, a significant interception operation was executed within the 81 Division NA Area of Responsibility on Saturday, 2nd March 2024. Demonstrating exceptional vigilance, the joint team successfully thwarted attempts to smuggle illicit substances, notably drugs, and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

In an official statement, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 81 Division Lieut. Col. Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni said acting upon credible intelligence, the troops conducted a stealth operation at Ajido in Badagry, Lagos State, uncovering two boats suspected of transporting illicit items.

He said a total of 27 sacks containing suspected drugs were seized during the operation. However, the suspects managed to evade arrest by fleeing into the river upon sighting the approaching troops.

In a separate operation at the Fabre area in Badagry, the troops intercepted smugglers transporting 77 sacks of Petroleum Motor Spirit. The seized PMS has since been handed over to the Nigerian Customs Service, Seme, while the sacks containing the suspected drugs were transferred to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Seme Command.

He further urged all law-abiding citizens in Lagos and Ogun States to continue providing credible information to support the efforts of the troops and other security agencies in combating criminal activities, thereby ensuring the maintenance of peace in the region.
