In a significant development in the fight against terrorism, Nigerian Army troops have successfully neutralized Maikusa, the second-in-command of a notorious terrorist cell operating in Katsina State.

Confirming the report, Director Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu said the operation, which took place on Monday, 4th March 2024, targeted the stronghold of the terrorist group led by the infamous Modi Modi in the Kurfi and Safana Local Government Areas of Katsina State.

He said the encounter unfolded in a fierce shootout, during which Maikusa and three other terrorists were gunned down by the troops. This decisive action not only eliminated key terrorist figures but also facilitated the clearance of terrorist enclaves in the region.

Nwachukwu said despite facing vehement resistance from the extremist elements, the troops demonstrated exceptional bravery and tactical prowess, ultimately overpowering the terrorists with superior firepower. Some terrorists were neutralized on the spot, while others fled in disarray.

He added that a cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered by the troops, including two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, 65 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, a locally fabricated gun, and camouflage uniforms.

In a continued effort to root out terrorism from the region, the troops extended their operations to dismantle terrorists’ camps in several villages, including Wurma, Shaiskawa, Yauni, and Dogon Marke in Kurfi LGA, as well as Ummadau and Zakka villages in Safana LGA.

Maintaining an aggressive posture, the troops remain vigilant in the area, committed to clearing out any remnants of terrorist activity to ensure the safety and security of the region.
