In a demonstration of valor and resolute action, personnel of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, effectively thwarted a meticulously planned bank robbery in Ayingba, Kogi State.
Amidst the early morning hours of Thursday, March 7, 2024, a group of heavily armed individuals sought to perpetrate a large-scale robbery targeting banks within the town. Eyewitnesses recount that the assailants, numbering over a dozen and equipped with sophisticated weaponry, instilled fear among the populace and even prompted law enforcement personnel to seek refuge.
However, the swift and decisive response of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, stationed in the vicinity, averted a potential catastrophe. Led by adept officers, the troops engaged the assailants in a fierce exchange of gunfire, compelling them to retreat and abandon their criminal endeavor.
Witnesses marveled at the courage and tactical proficiency displayed by the soldiers, who despite being outnumbered, effectively neutralized the threat posed by the assailants. The engagement resulted in the elimination of five robbers, the recovery of two AK rifles, and the seizure of three vehicles.
Although no casualties were reported among the troops, the robbers incurred substantial losses, with some sustaining injuries from gunfire and others managing to escape. Grateful residents of Ayingba conveyed their appreciation to the soldiers for their prompt and decisive intervention, acknowledging that their actions undoubtedly preserved lives and averted further turmoil within the community.
Expressing admiration for the soldiers’ selflessness and dedication to duty, residents such as Mr. John Abode voiced confidence in the military’s ability to safeguard the nation. Similarly, a lecturer at Kogi State University, who chose to remain anonymous, commended the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, highlighting their successful repulsion of the armed robbers as evidence of the military’s preparedness and capability to confront security challenges head-on.
