U.S. Mission Nigeria offers grants to foster shared values, strengthen bilateral ties

The United States Mission Nigeria has announced the launch of Public Diplomacy (PD) Grants, designed to promote shared values and strengthen the longstanding partnership between the United States and Nigeria.

These grants aim to deepen people-to-people connections while addressing key developmental and governance challenges through collaborative projects and initiatives.

The grants are administered by the Public Diplomacy Sections (PDS) of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos. Funding is open to a wide range of applicants, including individuals, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, and civil society organizations. All grants are awarded through an open and competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity process, ensuring transparency and inclusivity.

The PD Grants program is aligned with the U.S. Mission Nigeria Integrated Country Strategy, prioritizing three critical areas:

The grants will support projects that promote respect for human rights, enhance the rule of law, and foster accountability in governance. Initiatives that empower communities to engage actively in democratic processes and advocate for transparent governance are particularly encouraged.

Promoting mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities is a cornerstone of the program. The grants will fund initiatives that enhance human capital development, equip individuals with skills for inclusive economic growth, and create sustainable pathways to prosperity in Nigeria.

Recognizing the shared interest in maintaining regional peace and security, the program prioritizes efforts to counter threats, advance social cohesion, and promote national unity. Projects addressing pressing security challenges and fostering collaboration for peacebuilding will receive significant attention.

This initiative reflects the U.S. Mission’s unwavering commitment to fostering collaboration with Nigeria across multiple sectors. By empowering stakeholders at the grassroots level, the PD Grants program seeks to build capacity, inspire innovation, and address challenges collectively.

“Through these grants, we hope to strengthen the partnership between our two nations while addressing critical issues that matter to both Nigerians and Americans,” a representative from the U.S. Mission said.

The U.S. Mission encourages interested parties, especially civil society groups and academic institutions, to review the grant opportunities and apply with innovative, impactful proposals. These grants offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the shared vision of a prosperous, stable, and democratic Nigeria.

By leveraging these grants, the U.S. Mission Nigeria reaffirms its dedication to nurturing a bilateral relationship grounded in mutual respect and a shared commitment to development and progress.
