Describing the #HDR2024 as a pivotal ‘Call to Action,’ Fall highlighted its relevance amidst contemporary global realities. He stressed the importance of multilateralism and solidarity among nations, emphasizing their crucial role in addressing the challenges outlined in the report. Fall noted that world leaders would convene in September for the Summit of the Future to deliberate on these issues and work towards revitalizing the multilateral system to effectively pursue global goals and achieve a sustainable and equitable future.
Recognizing Nigeria’s pivotal role regionally and globally, Fall expressed confidence in the country’s potential for success, provided there is dedication and political will. He emphasized that Nigeria’s success would not only benefit the continent but also the entire world.
Echoing Fall’s sentiments, Ms. Elsie Attafuah, the UNDP Country Representative in Nigeria, emphasized the transformative potential of the #HDR2024. She described it as a catalyst for change amid increasing planetary interconnectedness and the spread of the digital revolution. Attafuah highlighted the shared challenges and opportunities arising from this interdependence, which nations can leverage for positive outcomes.
The remarks by Mr. Mohamed Malic Fall and Ms. Elsie Attafuah underscore the critical importance of global cooperation and solidarity in addressing the challenges outlined in the Human Development Report 2023 – 2024 and advancing towards a more sustainable and equitable future.
