US condemns recent surge of violence Nigeria

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has strongly condemned the recent surge in violence across several Nigerian states, including Borno, Imo, Benue, and Plateau. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Embassy described the attacks as “senseless” and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and continued insecurity affecting communities.

“We are deeply saddened by and strongly condemn the recent acts of violence in Borno, in Imo, and most recently in Benue and Plateau,” the statement read. “The ongoing threats faced by communities and community leaders in Nigeria are deeply troubling.”

The U.S. extended its heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by the violence, emphasizing its solidarity with the Nigerian people during this difficult time.

In addition to condemning the attacks, the Embassy called on the Nigerian government to ensure accountability. It urged authorities to conduct thorough and transparent investigations into the incidents and to bring those responsible to justice.

“The United States looks to Nigerian authorities to conduct thorough investigations and hold those responsible accountable,” the statement continued.

The Embassy reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Nigeria’s efforts to enhance peace and security across the country, as well as to uphold the rule of law and protect human rights.

“The United States stands with Nigeria in its efforts to promote peace, security, and respect for human rights,” the statement concluded.

The latest attacks have drawn widespread concern both domestically and internationally, with renewed calls for stronger security measures and more effective governance to address the root causes of violence and instability in the region.
