The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has secured the release of social media activist Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), following protests by youths demanding his immediate freedom.
The protest took place on Thursday at the NHRC headquarters in Abuja, prompting a high-level delegation led by the Commission’s Director of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Mr. Harry Obe, to engage with officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at its Jabi office, where Otse was being held.
Following the engagement, Otse was released. The Commission commended the EFCC for its prompt response and cooperation, noting that the swift resolution underscored the importance of collaboration in advancing and protecting human rights.
The NHRC also praised the protesters for their peaceful conduct and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights of all individuals while promoting a culture of respect for human dignity.
