Widows’ group honours chief Obuah at 63 in Abuja

Members of the Peculiar Widows’ Forum on Tuesday converged on Abuja to celebrate the 63rd birthday of the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Chief Felix Amaechi Obuah, in recognition of his longstanding humanitarian and philanthropic contributions.

The widows, who travelled from Makurdi, Benue State, described the visit as a heartfelt gesture of gratitude to a man they said had consistently supported them and other vulnerable groups over the years, regardless of state or ethnic affiliation.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Regina Peter praised Chief Obuah for what she described as uncommon compassion and selfless service. She said his interventions had brought relief and hope to widows who had long felt forgotten.

“He chose to wipe our tears when others looked away,” she said, adding that the group continually prays for him, believing that his generosity would attract divine favour and greater responsibilities in public service.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Widows’ Forum, Esther Dominic, described Chief Obuah as a father figure with a genuine passion for the less privileged. According to her, his support had been particularly meaningful during difficult periods marked by insecurity and economic hardship.

“When no one remembered us, he did,” she said. “Though we are not from his state, he has always stood by us, giving us food, encouragement and hope.”

The widows offered prayers for Chief Obuah, describing him as a God-fearing leader and expressing confidence that his aspirations would be fulfilled. They said the decision to honour him in Abuja reflected their desire to publicly acknowledge his impact on their lives.

Responding, Chief Obuah expressed gratitude and surprise at the gesture, noting that he had not planned any celebration for his birthday.

“I am overwhelmed by the love shown by these widows who travelled all the way from Makurdi,” he said. “I thank God for life, health and happiness, and I will continue to put smiles on faces and add value to lives, no matter how little the support may seem.”

Chief Obuah, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, currently heads the AMMC, where he is credited with initiatives aimed at urban development, environmental sanitation, security coordination and infrastructure improvement within the Federal Capital Territory.

Beyond Abuja, his philanthropic activities span education, healthcare and support for vulnerable and marginalised groups across the country. Colleagues and beneficiaries alike describe him as a leader known for humility, integrity and a strong commitment to public service.

The modest birthday gathering, participants said, served as a quiet but powerful reminder of the far-reaching impact of compassion and service to humanity.
