Zamfara rejects FG propose peace accord with bandits

Zamfara State Government has officially distanced itself from the ongoing negotiations purportedly initiated by certain individuals claiming to represent a Peace Accord orchestrated by the Federal Government to engage with bandits, aimed at addressing the persistent security challenges in the state.

Expressing deep concern in a statement signed by Commissioner of Information and Culture Comrade Mannir Mu’azu Haidara Kaura, the state government criticized what it deemed as the unauthorized actions of certain groups presenting themselves as delegates of the Federal Government, purportedly engaging in negotiations with bandits across various regions of the state. The Zamfara State Government firmly stated that it does not endorse nor participate in these negotiations, labeling them as unlawful and contradictory to the state’s interests and the collective will of its people.

Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration has repeatedly emphasized its stance against negotiating with bandits or endorsing any peace initiatives involving them. The state government has characterized these efforts as politically motivated endeavors orchestrated by adversaries of Zamfara State, aimed at undermining the administration’s robust strategies to combat banditry and other criminal activities within its jurisdiction.

Consequently, the state government has outrightly rejected the so-called peace accord purportedly initiated by these individuals, urging the general public and security agencies to remain vigilant and to refrain from supporting or facilitating their activities within the state. Zamfara State Government has emphasized that these actions run counter to the aspirations of its citizens and are designed to disrupt the efforts of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration in tackling the prevailing security challenges.

Assuring the public of its unwavering commitment to restoring peace and safeguarding the lives and properties of all Zamfara residents, the state government has reiterated its collaboration with security agencies to address the security situation effectively. It remains resolute in its determination to eradicate banditry and ensure lasting peace across the state.

Furthermore, the state government extended its heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the victims of recent banditry attacks in Sakaji and Bilbis villages in Kaura Namoda and Tsafe local government areas. It condemned the incidents as tragic and reaffirmed its resolve to prevent such occurrences from persisting.
