Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced a renewed collaboration with the Federal Government to tackle the recent resurgence of attacks in the state. The joint initiative will focus on enhancing intelligence sharing, upgrading security infrastructure, and equipping security personnel with the necessary tools to combat insecurity.
In a statewide broadcast on Saturday, Governor Zulum revealed that discussions with federal authorities and security agencies have yielded a comprehensive plan to restore peace.
“I am pleased to inform you that the collaboration between Borno State and the Federal Government is stronger than ever,” Zulum stated. “We are working together on strategies to reinforce our security architecture and provide frontline agents with the support they need.”
Zulum also emphasized the strengthening of volunteer forces, including the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters, and vigilantes, along with improved community-based intelligence and early warning systems.
He warned against any form of collaboration with armed groups, declaring them “our collective enemy.”
The governor affirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment and the support of the service chiefs in addressing the crisis. “We have received assurances from the President and all the service chiefs that all efforts will be made to end the current wave of insecurity,” he added.
In response to a rise in urban crime, Zulum announced the reconstitution of the Anti-Social Vices Committee to combat violent activities within Maiduguri and surrounding areas.
Addressing ongoing challenges with water supply in Maiduguri, Jere, and nearby communities, Zulum attributed the scarcity to damage caused by the September 10th flood disaster. He assured residents that efforts to restore water infrastructure are ongoing.
Calling for unity and spiritual reflection, the governor urged citizens to observe a voluntary fast on Monday to seek divine intervention for peace and stability.
“In light of our current security challenges, I invite all residents to join me in a voluntary day of fasting and prayer. This is a communal expression of hope and resilience,” he said.
Governor Zulum concluded by paying tribute to the members of the Nigerian Armed Forces who have lost their lives in the line of duty, praying for strength for their families in bearing the loss.
