Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Sunday paid a working visit to Malam-Fatori, the headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area, where he met with military personnel and returnee residents.
The governor’s visit was aimed at boosting the morale of troops stationed in the area and assessing ongoing efforts to restore stability and rebuild the once-displaced border community, located on the fringes of the Lake Chad Basin. Malam-Fatori had been deserted for nearly nine years following terrorist attacks that forced mass displacement.
At the headquarters of the 68 Battalion, Governor Zulum interacted with commanding officers and frontline troops, commending their bravery in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace in the region.
“On behalf of myself and the good people of Borno State, I want to commend the officers and men of the 68 Battalion. There was a terrorist attack here a few days ago, and you gallantly repelled it, delivering a decisive blow. Once again, I commend your gallantry,” Zulum said.
Addressing returnees, many of whom had fled to neighbouring Niger Republic during the height of the insurgency, the governor urged vigilance and community cooperation with security agencies.
“The government is working tirelessly to provide the support needed for sustainable peace in this community. Insha Allah, Malam-Fatori has come to stay. We will do everything possible to ensure this town continues to thrive,” Zulum assured, while promising enhanced security measures and development interventions.
Governor Zulum was accompanied by the Chairman of the Malam-Fatori Resettlement Committee, Engr. Bukar Talba; the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugun Mai Mele; and the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Mustapha Ali Busuguma, among other senior officials.
