NPA, Ministry of Marine & Blue Economy honored for PEBEC reform achievements

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has been recognized as the “Most Committed Agency” in the recently concluded Cohort #3 of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) reforms. This accolade comes as a result of NPA’s dedication to driving reforms, with the Authority undertaking 63 reform activities—double the average of other ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs)—and achieving a 100% success rate.

The reforms implemented by NPA are expected to significantly enhance the efficiency of Nigeria’s ports. Among the most notable reforms is the reduction in export processing time, which has been cut from an average of 10 days to just 3-5 days, depending on the arrival of the lifting vessel. This reduction follows benchmarking against competing jurisdictions. Other key reforms include measures to ensure transparency, reduce costs, and streamline processes.

During a press briefing, NPA Managing Director Mohammed Bello Koko praised the leadership of the Honorable Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, and acknowledged the support from the Executive Management, Senior Management, and the BFA Reform Team of the Authority in achieving a comprehensive reform agenda for the port industry.

In addition to NPA’s recognition, the Ministry of Marine & Blue Economy was honored as the “Best Performing Ministry” for its outstanding delivery of reform activities under the PEBEC initiative.

These accolades underscore the significant progress being made in improving Nigeria’s business environment and the pivotal roles played by both the NPA and the Ministry of Marine & Blue Economy.
