The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of 17 people, including an FRSC rescue operative, in a multiple vehicle crash that occurred in Gbara, Ogun State.

According to Assistant Corps Marshal Corps Public Education Officer FRSC Headquarters, Abuja Olusegun Ogungbemide, the fatal crash, which took place at approximately 4:00 p.m. on 5 April 2025, involved seven vehicles and was attributed to excessive speed and brake failure. The vehicles included a white DAF truck (reg. no. T14007LA), a Toyota Hiace bus (AGL752YC), a Honda saloon car (HET680), and a police Nissan pick-up van (STF10204). Two Bajaj motorcycles and another unregistered DAF truck were also part of the collision.

According to FRSC, the crash involved 18 people: 12 male adults, 5 female adults, and 1 female child. Tragically, 17 victims—11 men, 5 women, and the child—lost their lives. Only one person survived with injuries.

Corps Marshal Mohammed extended his condolences to the bereaved families and paid tribute to the fallen rescue operative who died in the line of duty. He stressed the urgent need for motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and ensure regular vehicle maintenance to prevent such avoidable tragedies.

Lamenting the rising toll of speed-related crashes, he emphasized the FRSC’s unwavering commitment to road safety enforcement. He also vowed that the driver responsible for the crash will face legal consequences as part of the Corps’ broader push for accountability.

The Corps Marshal called on all road users—drivers, pedestrians, and stakeholders—to join hands with the FRSC in promoting road safety and eliminating reckless driving on Nigerian roads.
