In a coordinated military operation on June 24, 2025, Nigerian Army troops, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, repelled a major terrorist incursion into Bangi community in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to Acting Director, Army Public Relations Lieut. Col. Appolonia Anele, acting on credible intelligence, troops engaged an estimated 300 armed terrorists in a prolonged three-hour firefight in Kwanar Dutse Forest. The insurgents were reportedly transiting toward Kwatankoro Forest, either to stage coordinated attacks or evade military pressure from ongoing operations in Zamfara State.
Following the intense ground combat, the Air Force launched precision airstrikes on the terrorists’ escape routes, delivering targeted bombardments on identified positions. While the number of terrorist casualties remains unconfirmed, blood trails along retreat paths suggest significant losses on the enemy’s side.
Tragically, 17 Nigerian soldiers were killed in the clash, and 10 others sustained injuries. The wounded personnel have been evacuated to military medical facilities and are reported to be in stable condition.
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Oluwafemi Oluyede, extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and assured them of the Army’s support. He also ordered top-level medical care for the injured personnel.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to national security and called on the public to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts by sharing timely intelligence with security agencies.
