President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the 700km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, promising a revolution in transportation and a significant boost to regional economies. Speaking at the Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, he emphasized the project’s potential to connect nine states along Nigeria’s coast and integrate key highway corridors.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President said this ambitious project, starting in Lagos and ending in Cross River State, will include a spur to the north-central region, enhancing connectivity across Nigeria. Additionally, President Tinubu initiated the design and procurement for the 1,000km Sokoto-Badagry Highway and the 461km Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja Road.
Marking his administration’s first anniversary, President Tinubu also flagged off the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 330 roads and bridges nationwide. He praised the diligent efforts of Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, and the commitment of Hitech Construction Company.
Highlighting the project’s benefits, President Tinubu stated it would create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, drive economic growth, and improve access to markets for millions. He urged the nation to seize opportunities, particularly with the recent UN decision extending Nigeria’s continental shelf.
Local leaders and governors expressed strong support, underscoring the project’s transformative impact and the sacrifices made by communities along the route.
