In a solemn ceremony, the Nigeria Police Force distributed cheques from the Group Life Assurance and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme to 563 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers.
In a statement Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja: ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said this distribution, covering the insurance policy years 2018/2019, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023, underscores the administration’s commitment to honoring fallen heroes who dedicated their lives to national service and protection.
The Group Life Assurance Scheme and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme provide essential financial support to the families of deceased officers. The latest disbursement, totaling ₦2,588,456,838.15, marks the third presentation in 2024 and the sixth under the current administration. Since July 2023, a cumulative amount of ₦9,851,847,889.88 has been distributed to 3,077 families.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, along with the Force Management Team, presented cheques to some beneficiaries. IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the welfare of police officers and their families, promising ongoing enhancements to welfare schemes to support families of fallen officers and improve service conditions.
The IGP expressed heartfelt gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, for his support in facilitating the timely release of insurance claims. He also commended the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Force Insurance Unit for their efforts in ensuring prompt settlement of claims.
