A 24-hour curfew has been imposed in parts of Borno and Yobe States following protests by youths against perceived bad governance. The curfew affects Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru towns in Yobe State, and several areas in Borno State.
Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdussallam, Special Adviser to the Yobe State Governor on Security Matters, announced the curfew in a statement. He noted that some individuals had taken advantage of the protests to vandalize and loot property. “The Yobe State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru,” he said. “The public is advised to adhere to the curfew and remain at home to ensure peace.”
In Borno State, the police also implemented a curfew in response to unrest and a recent incident in Kawori involving an improvised explosive device that resulted in 16 deaths and numerous injuries. Nahum Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Borno Police Command, emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order. “The executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umar Zulum, in consultation with security heads, has deemed it necessary to declare a 24-hour curfew with immediate effect,” Daso stated.
Authorities in both states have urged residents to comply with the curfew orders and assured them of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security. Further updates will be communicated as the situation develops.
