The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Mele Kyari, has urged the military to maintain and intensify their efforts against crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism. He highlighted that the ongoing security operations have led to significant improvements in Nigeria’s crude oil production.
According to Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPC Ltd, Abuja Olufemi Soneye, Kyari made this appeal during a courtesy visit from the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and senior military officials at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Tuesday.
“I call for enhanced and sustained security engagement. We have reached a new production peak not seen in the last three years, directly tied to the armed forces’ efforts in safeguarding our critical infrastructure,” Kyari stated. He praised the military’s commitment, particularly in the Niger Delta, emphasizing that these efforts are vital not only for Nigeria but also for the global energy sector.

Kyari expressed confidence in the military’s ability to address security challenges affecting the nation’s oil production, commending their coordinated response. “Your efforts are effectively managing the security components critical to our operations, paving the way for improved engagement, especially in the Niger Delta,” he added.
General Musa, in his remarks, introduced the Monitoring Team, which will liaise with NNPC Ltd. and other stakeholders to secure Nigeria’s hydrocarbon infrastructure. He assured continued military commitment to enhancing security and productivity, stressing the importance of collaboration with intelligence agencies, private security, state governments, and host communities.
“Working together is essential to achieving our goals. We will collaborate with all necessary stakeholders to meet the targets set by Mr. President,” General Musa affirmed.
