The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), led by Commandant Joachin Okafor, has arrested seven suspects for illegal dealings in petroleum products. The command also impounded a badge and three boats loaded with Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
In a statement, National Public Relations Officer, NSCDC, NHQ, Abuja CSC Babawale Afolabi said Commandant Okafor declared a renewed commitment to combating economic sabotage, including crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and the conveyance of illegally refined products. He emphasized his administration’s focus on restoring order and protecting critical infrastructure in the state.
He said two suspects were apprehended with a badge containing unqualified, illegally refined AGO. According to Commandant Okafor, they were caught scooping the product into cellophane bags for transportation to an unidentified location.

Additionally, five suspects were paraded by the command’s Marine Squad after being intercepted along the Tombia-Iwofe axis of the waterways. Preliminary investigations indicate they were in possession of three boats filled with unquantified litres of AGO.
“Our relentless fight against crude oil theft is driven by our dedication to curbing illegal bunkering activities in coastal areas, thereby boosting the nation’s oil production. As an operational commandant, I am committed to restoring order and addressing environmental degradation caused by these unlawful acts,” said Commandant Okafor.
He assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to identify those responsible for the illegal activities, and the suspects will face prosecution in a competent court.
