A wave of coordinated attacks has left at least 52 people dead and over 1,800 displaced in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The assaults, which occurred between 27 March and 2 April 2025, targeted multiple communities including Ruwi, Hurti, Tadai, Gwande, Manguna, and Dafo.
Eyewitnesses and local reports confirm that armed assailants launched violent attacks on these villages, resulting in widespread destruction of homes and property. Five individuals remain missing in Hurti, while dozens sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Medical personnel are currently treating two critically injured victims at Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos. More than 20 others are receiving care at Cottage Hospital in Bokkos Town.
In response to the crisis, three displacement camps have been set up in Daffo, Hurti, and Gwande, with additional survivors being hosted by residents in nearby communities. The total number of displaced persons is estimated at 1,820 and continues to rise.
The security situation remains tense as authorities work to stabilize the area. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Chairman of Bokkos LGA, is conducting assessments and providing emergency humanitarian aid to affected populations.
Efforts are ongoing to restore normalcy, as residents call for increased security presence and long-term intervention to prevent further violence.
