The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) is set to launch the Diaspora Home and Abroad Platform, a new initiative aimed at enabling Nigerians living abroad to safely and seamlessly invest in property back home.
According to the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the platform will be unveiled during the sixth edition of National Diaspora Day (NDD), scheduled for July 25–26, 2025, in Abuja. The event is expected to draw over 1,200 physical participants and thousands of virtual attendees globally.
Dabiri-Erewa said the platform was created to offer secure, accessible, and reliable housing options for Nigerians abroad, noting that this year’s NDD aims to shift from rhetoric to practical engagement with the diaspora community.
“In 2024 alone, Nigerians in the diaspora remitted over $20 billion — more than the country’s foreign direct investment,” she stated. “Beyond the money, we must harness the knowledge, skills, and global exposure of our diaspora for national development.”
This year’s theme, “Optimising Formidable Diaspora Potentials for National Development and Growth,” underscores the need for action in leveraging diaspora contributions.
She also announced that 25 African American guests will attend the celebration, a testament to deepening ties between Nigeria and the global African diaspora.
NiDCOM, she added, has intensified efforts to structure diaspora engagement through initiatives such as the Diaspora Focal Point Officers, National Diaspora Policy, Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS), and ongoing Diaspora Data Mapping.
A key feature of the event will be a Youth Empowerment Summit focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), with participation from students across 14 schools in Abuja. Mr. Abiodun Akanbi, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, confirmed that over 500 youths will attend.
Other highlights include plenary sessions, investment fora, networking opportunities, and the National Diaspora Merit Awards, which will honour exceptional Nigerians making global impact.
