Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI have disrupted a major logistics movement by Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, neutralising scores of fighters during a coordinated ambush in Sojiri and Kayamla communities of Borno State.
According to military sources, the operation was executed following credible intelligence indicating that more than 100 Boko Haram terrorists were converging in the area to launch coordinated attacks on local communities and transport supplies to their enclaves. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilantes, mobilised to intercept the insurgents.
Contact was made at about 12:00 noon as the terrorists advanced, leading to a fierce and sustained firefight. During the engagement, the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre, which was effectively repelled as troops applied superior firepower and maintained tactical dominance.
Subsequent aggressive exploitation of the surrounding forest confirmed the neutralisation of at least 21 terrorists, while several others were believed to have fled with gunshot wounds. Follow-on operations are ongoing to determine additional casualties and recover more items.
Recovered items include several bicycles, assorted foodstuffs, drugs and medical supplies, detergents, clothing materials, bicycle tyres, torchlights, sundry logistics items, as well as assorted weapons of different calibres and ammunition.
Military sources stated that troop morale remains high, with fighting efficiency described as strong and unwavering. The operation, they noted, underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven joint security efforts in degrading terrorist networks and disrupting their logistics and sustainment capabilities.
