Kaduna attack claims nine lives, Amnesty International raises alarm

Amnesty International has condemned the deadly attack on the Irigwe community of Angwan Magaji in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, which left nine people dead and 11 others injured.

The attack, which occurred late on June 16, 2026, is regarded as one of the deadliest recent assaults in Southern Kaduna, further highlighting the persistent security challenges facing communities in the region.

According to Amnesty International, two of those killed were children aged five and four. The organisation said several victims were brutally murdered during the attack, while efforts were still ongoing to locate persons reported missing in its aftermath.

The rights group expressed deep concern over the continuing wave of violence in Southern Kaduna, where communities have repeatedly faced attacks, kidnappings and other forms of insecurity.

Amnesty International described the situation as a serious threat to the right to life and criticised what it called the failure of authorities to effectively curb the violence and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

The organisation urged the government and security agencies to take decisive measures to protect vulnerable communities, prevent further attacks and hold those responsible accountable.
