The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed as false a viral video circulating on social media alleging an ongoing terrorist attack in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, assuring residents that no such incident occurred.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the police described the claims in the video as “entirely false, misleading, and malicious.”
According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the footage was deliberately manipulated using misleading content sourced from online platforms to fabricate a narrative intended to cause panic, incite fear, and undermine public confidence in the security architecture of the nation’s capital.
The police further disclosed that operatives have arrested one Pam Joseph in connection with the creation and dissemination of the video. The arrest followed credible intelligence and digital forensic investigations that linked the suspect to the origin and spread of the false content.
The Force подчеркed that while citizens are entitled to freedom of expression, such rights do not extend to the deliberate spread of misinformation capable of threatening public peace and national security.
It urged members of the public to verify information before sharing and to avoid actions that could incite fear or disorder.
The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public order and national security, adding that it will continue to monitor digital platforms and take decisive action against individuals involved in the dissemination of false information.
