Police bust drug networks, arrest key suspects in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has announced significant breakthroughs in its ongoing security operations, including the disruption of drug trafficking networks and the prevention of a suspected kidnapping plot through coordinated statewide raids.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives carried out multiple targeted operations leading to arrests and the recovery of substantial quantities of suspected illicit drugs.

During a late-night raid on April 15, 2026, operatives of the Otorokpe Division stormed a suspected drug hideout in Ugholo community, resulting in the arrest of a 33-year-old female suspect identified as Justina Onokpasa. Items recovered at the scene included two large bags and 300 smaller containers of substances suspected to be cannabis variants, alongside 30 bottles of codeine, sachets of tramadol and other synthetic drugs, as well as approximately 400 empty distribution containers. Police said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.

In a separate operation on April 16, 2026, operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit conducted raids on identified drug hotspots in Abraka, leading to the arrest of three additional suspects. Authorities reported the recovery of large quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs. The suspects are also in custody pending further investigation.

Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the efforts of the operatives and reiterated the Command’s commitment to intensifying operations against criminal networks across the state.

The Command further urged members of the public to support law enforcement agencies with credible and timely information to aid ongoing efforts to combat crime.
