Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified offensive operations against terrorist groups in Zamfara State, neutralising several fighters, recovering weapons and intercepting 180 explosive materials allegedly being transported to terrorist elements.
The latest successes were recorded on August 14, 2026, during a clearance operation by troops of Sector 2 in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of the state.
The troops made contact with terrorists around Garin Kaso and engaged them in a fierce firefight, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists.
According to the Joint Task Force, troops recovered two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles from the terrorists.
The operation came under further attack when another group of terrorists attempted to ambush the troops from concealed positions.
The troops, however, responded decisively, fought through the ambush and inflicted additional casualties on the terrorists, forcing the surviving fighters to flee the area.
In a separate operation, troops also intercepted a courier transporting 180 explosive materials believed to have been destined for terrorist elements operating in Zamfara.
The interception is expected to disrupt the logistics and operational capabilities of terrorist groups in the theatre, particularly their ability to acquire and deploy explosive devices.
The Joint Task Force said the operations formed part of sustained efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks, deny them freedom of movement and disrupt their sources of weapons and other operational supplies.
The military has maintained that offensive operations will continue across the North-West theatre to degrade terrorist and criminal networks and restore security to affected communities.
