Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate abduction attempts in Zamfara State, rescued 16 civilians and repelled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State.
The operations, carried out on August 28, 2026, involved troops responding to distress calls and intelligence reports of terrorist activities across the Joint Operations Area.
In the early hours of the day, troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call over an attempted terrorist attack on a community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The terrorists were reportedly attempting to abduct residents when troops swiftly intervened, forcing them to flee from the area. Four civilians were rescued, while the troops subsequently dominated the area to prevent further terrorist activity.
Later the same day, Sector 2 troops responded to intelligence on terrorist activities around Kwanoni Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
On arrival, the troops reportedly encountered terrorists attempting to abduct passengers travelling in two vehicles and engaged them in a firefight.
The terrorists were forced to withdraw, abandoning their intended victims. All 12 passengers were rescued, while no casualty was recorded among the troops.

In a separate operation in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, terrorists launched an attack around Jabo Village.
Troops responded swiftly and engaged the attackers with what the military described as superior firepower, compelling them to withdraw from the area.
Two civilians who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident were promptly evacuated for medical attention, while troops continued to dominate the area to deny the terrorists further freedom of action.
The Joint Task Force said the successful rescue operations and the repulsion of the attack underscored the determination and responsiveness of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect lives and frustrate terrorist activities across the North-West.
The operations were disclosed in a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja.
