The Lagos State Government has expressed its appreciation to Access Bank Plc for its commendable efforts in rebuilding the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) Office, which was destroyed by hoodlums during the #EndSARS protest in 2020. At the commissioning of the newly reconstructed facility located at the VIS Headquarters in Ojodu, Berger, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, praised Access Bank’s commitment and dedication demonstrated through its Employee Volunteering Scheme, which exemplifies the essence of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The partnership between Access Bank and the State Government not only led to the restoration of a crucial Government asset but also brought hope back to the hearts of Lagosians. It serves as an excellent example of how government and corporate entities can collaborate to address societal challenges and create a positive impact in society.
Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola emphasized that the facility’s enhancement will significantly improve the productivity and efficiency of the VIS. He assured that the State Government will take full ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance and protection.
In acknowledging Access Bank’s benevolence and unwavering support in rebuilding the edifice, the Director of Vehicle Inspection Service in Lagos State, Engr. Akin-George Fashola, praised the bank as a shining example for other corporate organizations to emulate. He highlighted the resilience of the VIS Officers throughout the rebuilding process and expressed a desire for more collaborations with other corporate entities to reshape the State positively.
Handing over the project to the State Government, Mrs. Iyabo Soji-Okusanya, the Executive Director of Access Bank, stated that the bank’s main objective is to give back to society through community service. She mentioned that the reconstruction began shortly after the facility was razed by hoodlums in 2020 and thanked the VIS Directorate for their seamless support during the rebuilding process. Mrs. Iyabo Soji-Okusanya assured of more similar collaborations in the future as part of the bank’s commitment to community development and nation-building.
