The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army Maj Gen MT Usman assumed Command as the 24th General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army on Monday 24 July 2023 at the Division’s headquarters in Victoria Island Lagos
During the event, the outgoing GOC addressed the troops of the division, expressing his gratitude for their dedication and hard work. He emphasized the importance of discipline and loyalty while encouraging them to extend their full support to the new GOC, Maj Gen MT Usman.
Following the transition, Major Gen Ajunwa, who now serves as the DG, Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, expressed his appreciation to Major General TA Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), for giving him the opportunity to serve as the GOC of the 81 Division.
In his inaugural address as the 24th General Officer Commanding of the 81 Division Nigerian Army, Maj Gen MT Usman recognized the remarkable achievements of his predecessor and stressed the significance of continued cooperation and loyalty among the troops. He assured everyone that he would work diligently to justify the confidence placed in him by the COAS.
The Handing and Taking over Ceremony featured several notable moments, including valedictory addresses to officers and soldiers, the endorsement of handing and taking over notes, and the symbolic decoration of the incoming GOC with the 81 Division insignia. Furthermore, the ceremony included the lowering of the old flag, symbolizing the conclusion of an era, and the hoisting of the new flag, marking the commencement of a new chapter in the division’s history.
