Arase reaffirms commitment to Nigeria amidst police transfer controversy

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, a retired Inspector General of Police, has responded to recent online reports concerning the ongoing reorganization within the Nigeria Police Force, particularly focusing on the transfer of officers from certain states.

In a statement PSC Head, Press and Public Relations Ikechukwu Ani said contrary to insinuations in the reports that Dr. Arase was involved in the transfers affecting officers from his home state of Edo, the Police Service Commission clarified that the transfers were part of a routine reorganization aimed at maintaining effectiveness and professionalism within the force. The Commission commended the Police Management for addressing the issues raised in the publication.

The reports had alleged financial inducements from Edo State Governor, Obaseki, claiming that both the Inspector General of Police and Dr. Arase had accepted money for the transfers. Additionally, the publication accused Dr. Arase of dismissing police officers from his own village, a claim he deemed “ridiculous and infantile.”

Dr. Arase, known for his unwavering commitment to the Nigerian nation, emphasized that his priority has always been national interest over personal or regional considerations. Dismissing the allegation of dismissing officers from his village as baseless, he maintained his dedication to fighting crime and criminality nationwide.

In a letter written to the Governor of Edo state in December, Dr. Arase highlighted the escalating cult-related violence in the state and urged urgent and decisive action. He underscored the compounding issue of the Judiciary’s failure to prosecute these cases, allowing criminals to roam freely and perpetuate violence.

As the 18th Inspector General of Police, Dr. Arase had a track record of combating violent crimes, particularly in curbing cult-related activities. Despite his efforts, he expressed frustration at the release of culprits upon his retirement, emphasizing that the records of these cases remain with the Edo state Judiciary.

Dr. Arase affirmed his commitment to contributing to the restoration of peace and safety in Nigeria, pledging to continue the fight against criminal elements, including cultists and bandits, irrespective of their location. The Police Service Commission reiterated its support for the routine reorganization within the force, emphasizing its importance in maintaining efficiency and accountability.
