Army dismantles terror cells, rescues hostages nationwide

The Nigerian Army has recorded major operational gains across multiple theatres of operation, neutralising terrorist elements, rescuing kidnapped victims, and dismantling criminal networks in coordinated, intelligence-led missions nationwide.

A statement detailing activities within the last 24 hours said the operations underscored sustained offensive actions and strengthened inter-agency collaboration in addressing insecurity across the country.

In Kogi State, troops of 12 Brigade, working alongside the Nigerian Police and local vigilantes, conducted operations in Kakuma Ileteju/Origa and Ijumu villages, arresting two suspected terrorists and recovering motorcycles and chainsaw machines. Similarly, troops under Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA apprehended a suspect in Afaka, Kaduna State, who reportedly confessed to fleeing a terrorist camp due to internal conflicts among its leaders.

In Sokoto State, troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII in conjunction with 8 Division Nigerian Army carried out clearance operations in Tangaza Local Government Area, destroying terrorist camps and recovering military camouflage items. The troops also rescued a Nigerien national who had been held captive for over three weeks, highlighting the cross-border dimension of terrorist activities. In neighbouring Niger State, troops disposed of an improvised explosive device (IED), arrested five suspects, and dismantled terrorist camps as well as illegal mining sites.

Rescue operations also yielded significant outcomes. In Kwara State, troops responding to a distress call forced terrorists to abandon three kidnapped victims. In Edo State, multiple operations led to the rescue of several victims, the arrest of five suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and mobile phones. Additional efforts resulted in the rescue of two kidnapped farmers. In Delta State, troops arrested a suspected IPOB operative at Umunede junction.

In the South-South region, troops of 2 Brigade raided drug peddlers’ hideouts in Akwa Ibom State, arresting six suspects and seizing significant quantities of illicit drugs, including cannabis, methamphetamine, and codeine, along with cash exhibits. In Rivers State, troops uncovered and dismantled illegal oil bunkering infrastructure, recovering equipment used in the illicit refining of petroleum products.

Further north, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE in Plateau State intercepted criminal elements, arresting nine suspects and recovering firearms, ammunition, motorcycles, mobile phones, and cash. In Abia State, troops also discovered sacks of suspected stolen crude oil concealed along the Imo River axis, in line with ongoing efforts to curb oil theft.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against all forms of criminality and called on citizens to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to ensure lasting peace nationwide.
