Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the latest tanker explosion at the Karu Bridge along the Abuja-Nyanya-Keffi Highway, describing it as an unacceptable and recurring tragedy that demands urgent national attention.
In a statement, Atiku highlighted the frequency of such incidents, referencing a similar explosion two weeks ago at Otedola Bridge in Lagos. He called for the immediate establishment of a high-powered presidential panel to investigate the root causes of these explosions and implement practical solutions to prevent future occurrences.
“This is a national emergency. How many more lives must be lost before decisive action is taken?” Atiku questioned.
Reports indicate that multiple lives were lost in the Karu Bridge explosion, with several others injured. Atiku urged the authorities to mobilize all available resources to provide free and comprehensive medical care to the injured.
“My heart goes out to the victims and their families. May you find strength and comfort in this difficult time. I pray for the peaceful repose of the departed souls,” he added.
