Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has strongly condemned the deadly attack on Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, describing it as “barbaric” and a stark reflection of Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation.
In a statement issued on Monday, Atiku expressed outrage over the incident, which occurred on the night of March 29, 2026, and reportedly claimed the lives of several innocent Nigerians while leaving many others injured.
He described the attack as a “heinous assault” and “a damning indictment of the near-total collapse of security” in the country, warning that the situation has gone beyond isolated security lapses to what he termed a dangerous descent into lawlessness.
According to him, persistent insecurity continues to define the daily reality of ordinary citizens, despite repeated assurances and directives from authorities. He stressed that expressions of outrage alone are no longer sufficient to address the crisis.
The former vice-president called for urgent and decisive political will to confront the menace, insisting that the continued killing of innocent citizens must not be allowed to become a norm.
He also extended his condolences to the families of the victims, noting that his thoughts and prayers are with those affected during what he described as a deeply painful period.
