In an official statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, it was announced that detectives from the command have apprehended Margret Itodo (25), Agnes Ogbeh (23), Esther Anyanwu (24), and Anthony Chinakwe (24) on charges related to orchestrating a fraudulent kidnapping of Agnes Ogbeh.
According to the statement, on March 19, 2024, Agnes Ogbeh, a resident of Akure, purportedly traveled to Lagos where she became the victim of an alleged kidnapping. Agnes’s family received a distressing video depicting her and another individual bound, gagged, and exhibiting signs of distress, alongside demands for a ransom of Five Million Naira for Agnes’s safe release.
Hundeyin said upon receiving the complaint, the diligent detectives of the Command initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. Their efforts led them to a hideout where Agnes, the other individual from the video, and two others were found residing without any signs of coercion.
He said subsequent inquiries uncovered that Margret Itodo, a professional make-up artist, had been contracted to fabricate the video to simulate authenticity. All four suspects have provided confessional statements and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Commending the swift action of the detectives, Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, urged the residents of Lagos to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
