Capacity Development: Nigerian Army, 6 Division hosts air layering training for personnel

In alignment with the Barracks Investment Initiative Program (BIIP) initiated by the Nigerian Army (NA) in 2017, 6 Division recently organized a comprehensive one-day capacity-building training session for its personnel and their families. The training, which aimed to unlock the potential of the BIIP, was held at the Lieutenant General F Yahaya Badminton Court within the premises of Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.

The session featured a lecture delivered by Mr. Shola Aye, a renowned expert in the field and the founder of Fusion in Ideas Nigeria Limited. Mr. Aye provided insights into the fundamentals of air layering techniques and the integration of renewable energy products within contemporary business models. He highlighted the surging global demand for agricultural inputs, particularly focusing on seedlings with short gestation periods.

Emphasizing the importance of equipping individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in a competitive market environment, Mr. Aye underscored how plants nurtured through air layering can yield fruits at an accelerated rate while maintaining nutritional quality, thus appealing to health-conscious consumers.

Encouraging attendees to capitalize on the acquired skills, Mr. Shola emphasized their potential to generate multiple streams of income. The training also included a practical session where participants received hands-on experience in air layering techniques. Additionally, a mini exhibition showcased various renewable energy products, aiming to pique interest in their efficacy for small and medium-scale businesses.

Notable attendees at the event included Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding of 6 Division NA/Land Component Commander of Joint Force Operation DELTA SAFE, as well as the Chairperson of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives’ Association, commanders of 6 Division affiliated formations and units, staff officers, officers, and members of NAOWA, alongside enlisted soldiers.

The training session was meticulously crafted to equip personnel and their families with essential agribusiness skills in accordance with the objectives outlined in the BIIP. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Army to foster economic empowerment and self-sufficiency among its ranks and their dependents.
