CBN Governor advocates for stronger Intra-African Cooperation at 2024 African caucus meeting

At the 2024 African Caucus Meeting on “Facilitating Intra-African Trade: Catalyst for Sustainable Economic Growth in Africa,” Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Mr. Olayemi Cardoso emphasized the need for enhanced intra-African cooperation. He stated, “Despite challenges, Nigeria is committed to a united and economically integrated Africa. Sharing experiences will pave the path towards sustainable, inclusive growth.”

Governor Cardoso underscored the importance of open, constructive dialogues, noting that leveraging diverse expertise is essential to overcome obstacles hindering intra-African trade and to establish transformative trade policies. He highlighted the significance of currency convertibility, cross-border transactions, and financial policies as key components for the success of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He called for collaboration to ensure smooth trade across the continent.

However, Governor Cardoso stressed the need to leverage global partnerships to navigate the complex landscape and guide Africa towards sustainable economic growth.
