As part of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) welfare initiative aimed at enhancing the well-being of troops stationed in the North East, a total of 322 personnel were airlifted today to various destinations on a chartered ValuJet aircraft. This ongoing welfare flight program is designed to facilitate the movement of troops proceeding on vacation from the front lines, as well as to return those who have completed their holidays back to their respective posts in the North East.
The welfare flight initiative underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the morale and welfare of its personnel, providing them with the necessary support to ensure that they can take time off for rest and recuperation. The program not only alleviates the challenges associated with transportation but also demonstrates the Army’s dedication to maintaining the physical and mental well-being of its troops, who are engaged in critical operations in the North East region.
Upon arrival at their destinations, all troops from both outgoing and incoming sorties underwent thorough medical screening conducted by a dedicated team from the 7 Division Medical Stores and Hospital. This screening is a crucial preventative measure against the potential spread of M-POX within the Theatre of operations, reflecting the Army’s proactive approach to safeguarding the health of its personnel.

The medical screening process includes checks for symptoms associated with M-POX, and any other health concerns that might pose a risk to the troops or compromise operational readiness. This step is part of the broader health and safety protocols implemented by the Nigerian Army to prevent the spread of infectious diseases among the ranks, ensuring that troops remain fit and healthy while carrying out their duties.
The COAS welfare flight program is expected to continue, with further flights planned to accommodate more personnel as part of the Army’s comprehensive welfare strategy. This initiative aligns with the Army’s broader goals of enhancing troop welfare, improving operational efficiency, and maintaining high morale among those serving in challenging environments.
By prioritizing the health, safety, and well-being of its troops, the Nigerian Army is reaffirming its commitment to its personnel, recognizing their sacrifices, and providing them with the support needed to perform their duties effectively. The success of today’s welfare flights and medical screenings is a testament to the Army’s ongoing efforts to uphold the highest standards of troop care and operational preparedness.
